Leviticus, Hebrews

The author of Hebrews is clearly very familiar with the contents of Leviticus. He also believes that the religion portrayed in Leviticus was superceded by something more "real". What relationships do you see in the two books and does reading the one help to clarify the other?

Leviticus

It seems to appear here that God is basically inventing a religion for these people, and it's really detailed, and kind of disgusting for those of you who aren't into graphic descriptions of animal sacrifice. What's this all about? Why couldn't God just say, "Love me, love each other" as it seems like he does other places in the Bible?

Whether your interest in the Bible is historical or philosophical or literary or devotional, whether you believe in God or many gods or no god at all, please join us in reading through the entire book and learning from what it has to offer. It should take between ten and twenty minutes to read the portion for the day. Periodically questions and thoughts about the reading will be posted by members. All discussion is moderated, and members are asked to be respectful of differing beliefs while having freedom to express their own beliefs. You can become a member by commenting on a post.
